Abstract Webinar Series: The Growing Intersection of Government & Technology
On this week’s episode of the Abstract Webinar Series, Patricio sits down with Abhi Nemani to chat about the origin of “GovTech” — when government and technology started to cross paths, and what this intersection has yielded.
Currently the SVP of Product Strategy at EUNA Solutions, a privately-held software company that works closely with governments, Abhi has deep roots in the GovTech space and has seen it grow firsthand:
“Fifteen years ago, the [Government and Technology] intersection was not much of an intersection; it was two distinct roads. What’s happened over the past fifteen years is that those roads have come closer together.”
Earlier in his career, Abhi directed Code for America, a non-profit focused on using technology to address large-scale issues, namely prison overcrowding and housing. He also worked directly for the California state government, acting as the Chief Data Officer for the City of Los Angeles and Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Sacramento. Abhi’s experiences inside and outside of government taught him the importance of using data to empower innovation and transparency.
As the GovTech spaces continues to grow, Patricio and Abhi forecast that expectations around accessibility are also going to heighten. With increased innovation, reporting, and transparency made possible by modern technology, comes the expectation that obtaining government data will become even more convenient.
